Thirty-two teams are in the final stages of the 2010 Fifa World Cup, which starts on Friday 11 June 2010. One will be crowned world champions just over four weeks later. First though they have to battle it out in the group stages when just two teams from each group of four will go though the knockout stages.
There are no past winners in Group H, which mixes Chile, Honduras, Spain and Switzerland.
Chile
Former Argentina boss Marcelo Biesla has galvanised this Chilean team to the extent that they finished just one point behind Brazil in their South American qualifying group and ahead of the likes of Argentina and Paraguay. There are some solid and attractive players in the squad, not least Real Zaragoza striker Humberto Suazo and Real Sociedad goalkeeper Claudio Bravo. And watch out for a goal or two from Besiktas midfielder Rodrigo Tello.
Honduras
Not quite as bad as New Zealand or North Korea, Honduras nevertheless are not expected to produce anything special given their quality opponents in this group. Even their big name players are not that big – Maynor Figueroa from Wigan Athletic for example. Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Wilson Palacios is likely to cause some problems for opponents but not enough to frighten and Julian Cesar de Leon of Torino will need watching from free kicks.
Spain
European champions Spain look a class act coming into this tournament and are well capable of winning it for the first time. The potential combination of Barcelona midfielder Xavi’s passing ability with the striking power of Liverpool’s Fernando Torres is already wetting lips. And with Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas declared fit, it is hard to see who can stop them taking the crown.
