Asia Pacific Robot Contest - ABU Robocon 2008 Pune Contest
It is an annual robot contest, which started in 2002 for university, college and polytechnic students in the Asia-Pacific region. Under a common set of rules, participants compete with their peers from other countries with hand made robots. This contest aims to create friendship among young people with similar interests, as well as help advance engineering and broadcasting technologies in the region. This event will broadcast in your country/region through an ABU member broadcaster.
The contest is hosted by different broadcaster/country every year. The host for 2008 contest is Doordarshan, India.
Months of hard work, drilling, soldering, welding, discussions, testing and competing against each other paid off for the Multimedia University (MMU) Robocon team when it emerged as national champion in the Asia Broadcasting Unit (ABU) Robocon competition.
The win entitles the team of eight final-year engineering students, Kendrick Saw Tin Hoe, Lee Chee Cheong, Ng Wai Keong, Yap Wai Leong, Wong Siew Kham, Tan Wei Qiang, Ryan Tan Chee Chiang and Ng Yin Yeo, to represent Malaysia in the upcoming international level-competition in Pune, India, on August 31.
Who can Participate :
Undergraduate students currently enrolled in University or college or Polytechnic and should participate in the teams of 4 with 3 students and 1 instructor
The ABU Asia-Pacific Robot Contest or ABU ROBOCON is an annual international project organized by the ABU, Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union that consists of 118 broadcasters from 53 countries and regions. Young engineers exhibit their creativity and innovative skills at ABU Robocon!
So far, 25 countries/regions have entered ABU Robocon and exhibited the performance and strategies of their unique hand-made machines. The Contest is also intended to enhance friendship among young people who will lead into the 21st Century and to help advance engineering and broadcasting edge. The event will be on air in the member countries through ABU member broadcasters. In India the broadcasting is through DOORDARSHAN INDIA.
