Hyperbolic Crochet Coral Reef

This large-scale, constantly mutating series of handmade crochets replicate the forms of natural coral. The project, organised by the Los Angeles-based Institute For Figuring is a direct response to the plight of coral reef from pollution and global warming. Fusing science and mathematics with fine art and handicraft, the reef is constantly updated by an ever-expanding group of participants from around the world. The Crafts Council in partnership with Southbank Centre.

Jeppe Hein: Appearing Rooms

The work of Danish artist Jeppe Hein (born 1974) often combines sculpture with architecture and technology to playfully solicit the viewer's direct participation. Hein's aquatic sculpture Appearing Rooms was originally commissioned for the garden of the Villa Manin, Italy. Hein was inspired by the Baroque villa to design an ornamental fountain that visitors would be invited to enter, to interact with changing spaces created by rising and falling walls of water. Redefining traditional ideas about fountains, this public artwork explores the relationship between spatial perception and memory, presence and absence, inside and outside. As visitors walk through the 'rooms', they must carefully consider the patterns of rising and falling water if they are to leave the space without getting wet.

International Confex 09

The next International Confex takes place at Earls Court from 24 - 26 February 2009. To be contacted when registration opens. Confex 2008 proved to be a record breaking success achieving the highest ever visitor numbers in the show's 25 year history! ABC audit figures show a 27% increase in total visitors to 10,649 (which includes visitors that transferred across from the co-located Technology for Marketing & Advertising show). Total Attendance (including 4,158 other attendance) was also up a massive 20% to 14,807.

The Great British Beer Festival 08

The Great British Beer Festival at Earls Court is Britain's biggest beer festival and brings together a wide range of real ales, ciders, perries and international beers. There will be at least 450 beers available throughout the festival including golden ales, fruit beers, stouts, bitters and some international real lagers. As well as a great selection of beer there is also cider and perry, all available in pint, half pint and third pint measures.There's plenty to occupy you at the festival, you can play on some traditional pub games, enjoy the live music, sample some food including some good traditional pub snacks and also attend tutored beer tastings. • Smoking regulations:

An outside smoking area will be available again this year at the rear of the beer hall. Drinks will have to be left inside (provision is made for this), as it is not a licensed area.
