A configuration of the one inch thick Pavilion DV2000t, boasts an Intel 1.8 GHz T2400 processor, 100GB hard drive, 1GB of RAM, and a glossy 14.1 display. This sleek HP notebook can be had for well under $1000.
Hewlett Packard's Dv2000t PavilionCore Duo-basedlaptops are everywhere these days, so they aren't quite the nextbig thing anymore. They're the current big thing. The next bigthing now is the Core 2 Duo processor. But until Merom becomescheaper and more accessible in laptops, then you, the buyer, havethe task of finding a a core duo notebook with the most bells andwhistles to set it apart from the other dual-core machines. Thatcould be the new HP Pavilion dv2000t.
For under a$1000 you can get a 1.8 GHz Core Duo T2400 processor with 1GB ofRAM, expandable to 2GB, and 100 GB of hard drive space, but as Iimplied before, if you're paying a grand plus and you're NOTgetting that, you'd be getting taken for a monkey's uncle in thismarket.
What the HP Paviliondv2000t brings that other similar laptops don't have, though, isa pinstriped Matrix-mod black chassis, a one of a kind designthat makes the adjective "sleek" a cliché.
You get HP-exclusive technology such as QuickPlay, which allowsyou to load MP3s and DVDs onto the notebook without having toboot up Windows. And you can do so from your couch while yourlaptop rests on your desk 10 feet away, thanks to the remotecontrol (optional).
Then you get the BrightView high-gloss technology on the14.1-inch display. It ain't quite as good as watching a DVD onthe 46-inch DLP projection TV in my den, but it can't be beatwhile watching a movie on a 5-hour redeye, or the back row ofyour Econ 101 lecture.
The list of features goes on too: from the LightScribe DVD disclabeling technology, the two headphone jacks in the front of thelaptop, multimedia keys on the keyboard to control DVD playing, the1.3-megapixel Webcam, to the DVD burner.
Some would argue that the HP dv2000t has some holes for itsprice, like no PC Card slot or a high-powered graphics card. Butyou can always upgrade to a 128 MB Nvidia GeForce Go 7200 ifgaming is your thing. And there is an ExpressCard slot instead ofa PC Card, though the PC Card slot is more accessible byperipherals. It's something to consider, but not enough to bringyou down on this Pavilion.
If you really want to go to town, and pack this 1 inch thick, 5.3 pound HPlaptop with a 2 GHz Core 2 Duo processor (T7200), 120GB harddrive, and 2GB DDR2 SDRAM, expect to pay at least$1300.
