Summer Intensives: Ballet Level 1

These fun and informal ballet classes are suitable for people with limited experience or dancers returning after a long break. Francesca's classes focus on core stability and clarity of alignment to facilitate dynamic travelling sequences.

Teacher's Biography
Francesca McCarthy trained at Northern Ballet School, Manchester, and London Contemporary Dance School. She has taught ballet and contemporary extensively in Scandanavia and the UK, including Middlesex University, The Urdang Academy, LCDS, The Place - Classes and Courses, and Centre for Advanced Training, and company class for Shobana Jeyasingh Dance Company.

Summer Intensives: Contemporary Level 2

Date: 18 August 2008 - 22 August 2008
Time: 11:30 am - 1:00 pm

These classes are suitable for those with experience who want to improve their technique and performance skills. Lee will teach a cunningham class. Lee's classes explore various dynamic qualities to find versatility and efficiency within set movement phrases. There is a strong emphasis on weight, shifting, grounding and momentum.

Teacher's Biography
Lee completed her training at Northern School of Contemporary Dance. She then went on to work professionally with Diversions the Dance Company of Wales, working with numerous teachers and choreographers and touring internationally. Lee's role consisted of performing, teaching company class, teaching workshops for all ages and abilities, and the companies teaching mentor. After four years, Lee moved on to develop her teaching practice further and is currently studying dance training and education at the London Contemporary Dance School.

Summer Intensives: Pilates Open


Date: 18 August 2008 - 22 August 2008
Time: 09:30 am - 11:00 am

This class is open to all participants and offers the ideal complement to one of our more rigorous technique classes. Vicki will guide you through the basics of Pilates working to improve flexibility and stability.

Teacher's Biography
Vicki has a background in dance and physical theatre and has been practising Pilates for 8 years. In 2006 she trained in Pilates Matwork with The Pilates Foundation at The Place. Vicki's classes focus on breath and alignment helping to create flowing movements and release tension. This intensive week will keep you moving and thinking with new challenges from one class to the next.

Summer Intensives: Ballet Level 3


Date: 18 August 2008 - 22 August 2008

Fast-paced ballet classes for advanced students aimed to stretch and challenge participants facility and versatility.

Teacher's Biography
Born in Malaysia, Raymond has worked in television, musical theatre and classical ballet. He danced with the National Ballet of Portugal and in musical theatre productions for the Royal Shakespeare Company; the London Palladium; Royal National Theatre and Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, as well as in Stuttgart, Hamburg and Zurich. His credits for German television include Tatort and Zorc and he choreographed for the UK television show, Auf Wiedersehen, Pet for the BBC.

Raymond's other choreographic commissions include working for Ballet Black (Linbury Theatre), the National Ballet of Portugal; Hong Kong Ballet; Raymond has been guest teacher for Matthew Bourne's New Adventures; Richard Alston Dance Company; Hong Kong Ballet; Akram Khan; English National Ballet and Rambert Dance Company. He also teaches Professional Ballet at DanceWorks in London and a Ballet Lecturer for London Contemporary Dance School at The Place.
