Summer Intensives: Repertory Level 3

Phoenix Dance Theatre company members will lead a fast-paced class for advanced students. Participants will have the chance to learn excerpts from current and past company repertory. This aims to be an energised and stimulating five-day course not to be missed!

Over the last 27 years, from small beginnings in inner-city Leeds, Phoenix Dance Theatre have grown to be one of Britain's leading contemporary dance companies. From their home in Leeds, the company tours nationally and internationally, bringing inspiring and entertaining dance to the widest possible audience. Under Artistic Director Javier De Frutos, Phoenix's Artistic Policy is the maintenance of excellence in dance whilst exploring its evolution as an artform and its place in the 21st century. Phoenix selects choreographers of the highest calibre to work with our top-flight company of ten dancers, hand-picked from all over the world.

Summer Intensives: Contemporary Jazz Open

These classes are left open to all levels of ability offering participants the chance to explore new dance styles and techniques. An energetic and dynamic jazz class taught by accomplished choreographer Hagit Yakira. Hagit introduces her unique style of jazz blending traditional and funky jazz, with contemporary genres and ethnic influences. This fun class will give you a total body work-out developing your dance ability flexibility, strength and musicality.

Summer Intensives Ballet Introduction


Date: 11 August 2008 - 15 August 2008
Time: 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm
Enjoy making your first moves in these relaxed and informative ballet classes for absolute beginners. Expert teachers will guide you through the basics, building your movement vocabulary and confidence.

Teacher's Biography
Natalie trained at Arts Educational School. Graduating in 1994 Natalie began her career touring with London Contemporary Dance School Performance Group. She has danced for Scottish Dance Theatre, under directorship of Neville Campbell and Retina Dance Company. Natalie also works as a rehearsal director and worked with Neville Campbell at Dance City in Newcastle in 2006 for the Great North Run Dance Project. She teaches ballet and contemporary at First Dance Studios in Woking, and also teaches company ballet classes for Tavaziva Dance Company. Alongside teaching for CAT, Natalie will be and will be Tavaziva's Rehearsal Director this autumn.

Summer Intensives: Contemporary Level 1


Date: 11 August 2008 - 15 August 2008
Time: 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm

This class introduces you to the basics of contemporary dance and is suitable for complete beginners. Enjoy taking your first dance steps in these relaxed and informative classes. Cai will lead you in a release-based class using imagery and breath to improve fluidity enabling you to develop an understanding of the efficient release of energy when moving. The course will combine set material with improvisational structures.

Teacher's Biography
Cai Tomos studied dance at Coventry University he then went on to become a performer with Earthfall Physical Theatre and toured the UK and Europe. Cai has worked as a choreographer/director with both Earthfall and Diversions Dance Company and is co-founder of the Uru-Wales Project, a collaborative project with Director Martin Inthamossou that takes place in Montevideo South America.
Cai was recently awarded a creative Wales award by the Arts Council to develop his own work and is currently working as an independent artist. Cai has extensive teaching experience and regularly teaches contemporary technique throughout London and Wales.
